Q:  What is a VHS videotape?

A:  VHS stands for Video Home System and is 7-⅜ long, 4" wide and 1" thick. A VHS videotape is played in a VCR (Videocassette Recorder).  Examples of each are pictured below:

Q:  What is a DVD?

A:  DVD stands for Digital Video Disc and the widely available version is 4-⅞" in diameter and about 1/16" thick.  The dimensions of a DVD are the same size as a CD (Compact Disc), but a DVD stores more than 6-times the data than that of a CD.  A DVD is played in a DVD player, but most newer computers also have DVD players.
